                                              Biography

Background:   Dr. Unger received his Bachelors degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  His theoretical orientation is cognitive-behavioral therapy practiced for 20 years with adult individuals and couples.  Specialty areas are anxiety, depression, worry, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsiveness, stress/anger, marital conflict, and personal effectiveness.  Past experience includes serving as Director of the Southtowns Counseling Center and providing evaluation and referral services for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.   He has an interest in computer applications to psychological problems.

 Specialties:  Cognitive-behavioral therapy, of brief duration whenever possible, is utilized along with on-going evaluation of treatment effectiveness.  Active treatment components of psychoeducational reading and homework assignments are always used to increase therapy efficiency.  Efforts are made to educate clients about the importance of obtaining sufficient treatment to reduce relapse occurrences.  Services are provided for:

 Multi-media computer training for cognitive-behavioral skills is available for clients of psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers.   This is an intensive, interactive, self-paced course with integrated homework to reinforce the learning and use of cognitive principles.
