Computer Assisted Skill Training

Computer Assisted Training (CAT) in cognitive-behavioral methods is now offered individually and in a group supported context.  This service presents interactive multimedia training in the scientifically verified approach of cognitive therapy.  It uses a self-paced format with integrated homework to reinforce the learning and use of cognitive principles.  The program presents, in a full video and interactive format, action scenes introducing the central concepts of  cognitive-behavioral techniques.   The interactive nature creates interest and participation--key characteristics of effective learning.  Key cognitive principles presented  include:

Negative Automatic Thoughts - or learning to identify self-defeating thinking

Changing Automatic Thoughts - methods to gradually challenge and replace dysfunctional thoughts with more self-motivating and accurate ones

Constructive Action Strategies - effective behavior directed at challenges

Schema Identification and Change - modifying underlying negative beliefs about ourselves, our circumstances, and future

The CAT program allows you to work systematically with real life portrayals of how thinking controls emotions.  It shows how to use established psychological skills to positively and realistically improve your emotional life, and to facilitate more effective actions regarding your goals and relationships.  This training occurs at your own pace in comfortable, interactive computer sessions.  Homework assignments facilitate application of techniques to your own goals and challenges.  The program takes five sessions at two week intervals for a total of ten weeks.

It is designed to assist skill development of clients currently in treatment with a therapist.

The Management of Your Depression and Anxiety Course combines the Computer Assisted Training program with a group psychoeducational format that greatly reinforces, motivates, and assists skill acquisition.  It   has six group sessions that are coordinated with your computer classes, and it provides a more concentrated learning environment.
